Nicola’s main interest is making the law accessible to everyone.
She qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and has extensive experience of the issues that affect people with reduced capacity. For seven years she was the Legal Advisor to a leading Scottish charity advising on issues such as guardianship, community care, decision making and adult protection. She is a member of the Law Society’s committee on mental health and disability and recently co-wrote Adult Protection and the Law in Scotland (Bloomsbury Professional, 2009) with Hilary Patrick.
Sophie is a Specialist Paralegal who works closely with families, solicitors and financial advisers in relation to the set up and ongoing management of trusts. Her main interest is in using trusts to support people with reduced capacity or those receiving means tested benefits or community care. She provides advice and assistance to families and professionals on 'planning for the future' and presents regularly on this topic. She has managed a professional trust company, with around 200 active trusts, since 2007.
